"No instruments? No problem!" Making music with the body and voice

Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Having built up a repertoire of multicultural children's singing and rhythm games from all over the world.
The participants got introduced to the possibilities of working with body percussion, explored the possibilities of working with the singing voice, speaking voice and vocal sounds.
They could develop music skills: rhythm, singing, improvisation, listening.
Develop other skills: music activities that nurture the development of motoric, co-ordination, logical/mathematical, visual/spatial, kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and linguistic skills.
They know how to adapt the repertoire to fit the age of the students (examples of same repertoire adapted for different age groups).
Inhalt / Contenu
This workshop is designed to explore the vast possibilities there are to teach music in a meaningful and creative way without using any instruments at all.
In the workshop we will explore the connection between the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education and common elements used in world music styles.
The participants will get introduced to the possibilities of working with body percussion, explore the possibilities of working with the singing voice, speaking voice and vocal sounds.
We will use ostinato patterns, echo, improvisation, and other techniques used in the Orff approach to music education.
Arbeitsformen / Approche méthodologique
The workshop is taught through "learning by doing": first-hand experiences in body percussion, rhythm games, rhythmic speech, movement, singing games, canons from different cultures around the world.
